Football seasons is over
I walked outside your house
Made my way through the snow
Watched the last years slowly drown
A photographic memory
Filled with pills and wine
Souls of dead teen idles
Taken just before their prime
Kicking
and screaming
With one foot in the grave
The time for waiting is over
Be still, my shaky hands
As I YAWP! at the heavens
Screaming out my final stand
Find a peace in dying
Thus lose my fear in life
If I am going down
It won’t be without
One more fight
Kicking
and screaming
With one foot in the grave
Married to fevers
Glasses of wine
Unlocking the bottle
No condition to drive
Screaming apologies through telephone wires
Like the children of Summer that escaped on their bikes
The moon’s been out drinking in starlit slurring skies
Making deals with drunken demons to help the devil beat his wife
Now the bells from the church ring somewhere in time
As they steal away promises no longer mine
In the light of the day
Everything becomes new
We were wrong when we said,
“The ship looked better
going
down.”
The people we loved
(This bottle)
Everything that we knew
(Raging my lungs)
Will contain us all
