ALEX WRIGHT CONTAINS MULTITUDES

’86 TO INFINITY

The Sorted Static & Dead Channel Dreams of Alex Wright

Snow-Drift

By: Alex Wright

I’ll bet you won’t believe me
When I tell you that I’ve found
That sleep you’ve only read about,
Nights free of fear,
No dreams of doubt

Waking to a face
Not a note
Though, dear friends,
Please take the time
To jot these few words down
No, don’t be shy

There is only now
Blink and then it’s gone

Like the stars they say aren’t moving
Apart from strays that shoot to fool me
Mistaking them for UFOs
on porch nights staying home alone
Passing up those wishes
For a pocket full of paychecks
To toss into the first well that I found

Now those days are over
Although some nights aren’t spent sober
As we sit and laugh around a fire
That breathes and pines with our desire
For another conversation
While the sunset paints the mountains
No one ever looks down to take the time

There is only now
Blink and then it’s gone
Into the void where such things go
So hold it together, ya’ll
Don’t lose hope

I try
To stay in the moment
Slow down my stride

I tried
This storm that’s within meJust won’t subside

I cried
Out for an answer
The world replied,

“There is only now
Blink and then it’s gone”

Into this blessed mystery
This new awakening
From high atop this mountain
I can see infinity

Into the void where such things go

Where we all
                      drift
                             like
                                   snow.
